Begich Lead Over Stevens Grows to 2,374

Begich, Mark     146286     47.56%

Stevens, Ted     143912     46.79%

per http://elect.alaska.net/data/results.htm

I don't have the exact total of the previous vote at hand but it appears to be roughly 14,000 to 15,000 more votes than previously tabulated.

Importantly, Begich's lead is now at .77 percent, more than the .50 percent necessary to trigger an automatic recount.

Sweet. Hopefully we can soon put this one to bed and focus on MN and GA.

That should stick in Sarah's craw (none / 0)

Bush-style Republicans always love allying themselves with scumbags: when they're not useful anymore, they can knock 'em down and look good doing it.

Papa Bush did it with Saddam Hussein and Manuel Noriega; the tradition carries on even today with Sarah Palin and Ted Stevens.

Of course, if Uncle Ted loses, she won't have him to kick around.

The pebbles have voted and the avalanche has begun.

Don't put it past Palin to take credit for Stevens' loss.

Sure (none / 0)

But it's hard for her to take credit for something the voters decided.

Re: Begich Lead Over Stevens Grows to 2,374 (none / 0)

The only time Alaska does automatic recounts is if it's an exact tie.  If the margin is under 0.5%, Stevens can request one.  If the margin is greater, Stevens has to pay out of pocket.

It's over.  All that's left are several thousand absentees from Anchorage which should net Begich another couple hundred votes.

We've picked up 7 Senate seats so far.
